Uganda's New Speaker Seeks Prayers Against Alleged Witchcraft Attacks

The newly elected Speaker of Uganda's Parliament, Oboth-Oboth, has called on the public to pray for him, saying he is facing alleged witchcraft attacks aimed at undermining his leadership.

Speaking on Saturday at St. Mark Church in Tororo District, the Speaker said he remains steadfast and will continue serving the country with faith and determination. He also reaffirmed his commitment to fighting corruption in Parliament and called on leaders to work together to advance Uganda's economic development.

Oboth-Oboth urged civil servants to uphold integrity and avoid corruption, saying restoring public trust in government institutions is essential.

His remarks have drawn mixed reactions. Supporters praised his openness and resolve, while critics, including Winnie Byanyima, dismissed the claims of witchcraft attacks as superstition and political theatrics.

The comments have reignited debate over the influence of traditional beliefs in Uganda's political landscape.
